Epilogue

Epilogue

Rehan

I just stood there and watched as cops arrested Nalini and dragged her away. She kept on crying and struggling but it was of no use. The case was crystal clear as I handed all the evidences and investigation report that were done by my private detective. The case was soon moved to the court and the verdict was passed after a month. Nalini sentenced to 10 years of jail but since she was proved to be mentally disturbed, she was sent to government asylum till her mental condition stabilizes.

Ruhani and Abish were now much closer than before and had shifted together to London. Ruhani joined her company back and Abish started to work as new tech developer and researcher in the same company.

Tanya and I had to wait for a long time to get our life on track and a month after that incident we finally decided to marry each other. All I was doing now was just sitting in the mandap waiting for my bride to arrive so I could marry her and take her along with me to some faraway land where there's no one to disturb. I know that's a bit cheesy and impossible but at least I can try, after all she'll be mine now.

I looked at her and smiled as she sits beside me and her hand is placed in mine as the rituals commence. Marrying someone whom you love isn't possible for everyone but I was one of those lucky idiots who had it made possible for me right now.

Ruhani and Abish were smiling at us as we were circling around the holy fire. Taking the holy seven vows of marriage which were said necessary for a good married life. Who cared about them as long as you get to enjoy your whole life with your dream girl. A Disney princess whom you had dreamed about her as you had seen her first time in your class.

Everything was just getting better as the time passed and a month after our marriage Ruhani and Abish decided to marry each other and spend life together. We were back again in the same wonderful scene of marriage just with a difference that instead of us there were Ruhani and Abish sitting in the mandap against the holy fire.

Uncle i.e. Tanya's Dad retired from business duties and I was made to take over his responsibilities. Tanya used to assist me in the office and thus the life had taken a new turn, towards a new adventure.

~*~*~*~*~

Why it happens that the whom we trust the most hurt us the most? Why it happens that love is always misunderstood and most of the time taken for granted? Each of them had to choose between their friendship and their love. Ruhani had never loved Rehan but was rather infatuated with him as she had been with him from a long time. Being with Tanya made her more uncomfortable with herself as people always compared both of them.

The comparisons between friends or siblings get the things worse when even your family starts making you feel low about yourself. This had an adverse effect on her brain and shaped her mind-set she had. Why everyone was so cliché?

Tanya had to choose as she and her best friend were having a soft corner for the same guy. Fear of losing someone whom you love made her forget her friendship for the time being. She had been selfish when she hid her feelings from Ruhani and refused when Ruhani asked her to switch places as a bride. Why we always have to make a choice between love and friendship? Aren't they both most beautiful blessings of life?

At times fear of losing someone makes us do things that we might never have thought of. Fear of being alone got Ruhani sad and depressed. It stole her happiness and smile as she went on into depths of depression. She forgot and just overlooked Abish who really wanted to be with her and liked her as she was.

Rehan never had thought about Ruhani anything other than a friend. It was very heart-breaking for him to believe that he was the reason of division between his own friends. He thought he wasn't a trophy to be fought for. He just was a simple human who had wishes like any other average boy.

Even after all these ups and downs their friendship survived and still survives. All you need to do is have trust on the ones you love and the rest happens on its own.

THE END

Chapter Thirty-Eight : It’s Revealed

Chapter Thirty-Eight : It’s Revealed

Rehan
*present*

"I don't know how to say this but you know anyone that consumes these pills?" I asked Avi who was quite startled when I asked him the question.

"No, I don't." He answered looking downwards.

"Well then I guess you should have a look at these." I handed him the printout of the medical bills which were in the evidence portion of the email that had been sent to me.

"What do you mean by this?" He snapped back throwing away the paper.

"You can throw as many as you want. I have many of them with me. So will you take some pain to let it all out by yourself or should I tell everyone?" I questioned him making him to sit back again as he tried to move out.

"I don't know what you're talking about and why you're pulling me into this. I am a cousin brother but why would I try to do such a hideous thing with my sister." He thwarted.

"Please clear it out Rehan, I am losing my patience now." Uncle grunted.

"Okay then, the bill that I had handed to Avi was the bill for the same medicines that were found beyond limits in Tanya's bloodstream. As the doctor had said it might be in the last food she probably had.”

“Till I know, we all had dinner together and you had fed Tanya yourself as her hands still had mehndi on them. It means that the medicines were mixed with her food before the food reached at the dinner table. How he did it, I don't know. But all I know is the bill which was paid for these medicines had been paid using his credit card that too just a day before everything happened. I think all of this is pretty much self-explanatory, right Avi?" I said turning towards him.

"But I haven't used my credit card at all since last month. I had misplaced it and had  forgotten to apply for a new one. If you have any doubts ask Nalini she knows it." Avi tried to brush the matter of doubt from his shoulders.

"Oh yes, don’t you know that your lovely wife and my to be sister in law is been a seeing a psychiatrist from past three years? and she is been prescribed those medications?" All the heads turned towards Nalini who tried to avoid every eye around.

"Oh well, I thought it won't be this much dramatic but well let me cut the crap. She is the one who had been consuming those medications from past three years and just a few days back she bought more than the usual amount of those pills from the drug store. It was quite easy to point out. Now, I know you were behind all this and will you now please take the pains to tell us why you did this or should I call the cops? Because I think they know much better options for that." I continued as she shrieked and started crying.

"Yes, I did it. I powdered those pills and mixed with every food item that was in her plate. I took the utmost care in serving her as I didn't wanted that plate to be mixed with anyone else’s. Luckily, Uncle had been in a good mood that day. He decided to feed Tanya with his own hands. I thought my plan had become much easier than before. I thought she would be dead by the morning and the blame would land over him. We will be steered clear out of all this." She whimpered.

"I can't believe my ears, Why did you do such a thing Nalini? WHY?!" Avi asked her shaking her shoulders..

"Because I was fed up of her. Even when we were newly married, Avi he used to gift her more often than me. Every time I had planned to hang out with Avi he was dragged by her and his sisterly love was slowly overtaking my world. A few months back, I heard Uncle talking to lawyer about his will. Later that night, I asked Avi about it, if he knew anything in that matter. To which he had denied.

But a few days after that Avi arrived home heavily drunk. He was barely able to stand and struggled to keep his eyes open. He kept blabbering about some ‘will’ that night. He kept blabbering about some injustice that happened to him.

Next morning, when I tried to ask him, he just chucked the topic away. I thought that I needed to find  that out by myself.

I sneaked into uncle's room and when no one was around and searched for something that tells me about ‘Will’ that Avi had been blabbering about in his sleep.

I was surprised to see that all the wealth, everything was nominated to You and Tanya. Where were we in that file? I couldn't find that out. Where was our share? I decided that I already had enough of this injustice.

It seemed like everything was centered around her. Avi also had worked hard for the company and he wasn't even mentioned in the will. Why uncle? What had we done wrong? So I thought that if there's no Tanya there won't be any husband either and automatically everything would just land in our platter.

When uncle had decided to feed Tanya himself that night, I thought the plan had gone much easier. Uncle would be blamed for Tanya's death and he would be out of our way too. After that we could live our lives a lot better and easier without any attention seeking whore roaming around or her father."

Avi slapped Nalini as soon as she stopped speaking. All I could do was just watch the rest. Everything just halted there in front of my eyes. I could just visualise what had happened that night. It felt like everything was playing right in front of my eyes. All of that was just for wealth and love.

Chapter Thirty-Seven : Mystery Unfolds - 2

Chapter Thirty-Seven : Mystery Unfolds - 2

Rehan
*Present*

"Hmm..." I said keeping my phone aside as I pulled a chair to sit.

"That's all what I wanted to do. I just wished that Ruhani admits her mistake and just gets off the guilt. I know it isn't what it appears to be but I know Ruhani can't do this." He said looking towards Ruhani. It felt like they both were looking straight into each other’s eyes.

"So you were behind all that?" Ruhani looks towards Abish with disgust.

"Please don't give me that look. I just wanted to pull you out from the trouble. You know how much I care for you." Abish tries to explain but Ruhani just ignores him and looks away.

"But how is that related with the incident Rehan?" Avi asked.

"It surely is related. Ruhani had sneaked in to meet Tanya as she had things to sort out with her which unfortunately led to a heated argument later on."

"Then how it ended up like that in bloodshed? We didn't find Ruhani when we break opened the door to find Tanya lying unconscious in pool of blood." Nalini said.

"It wasn't just an argument, I was out of my wits and control. My anger was controlling me at that time. I just don't know how I ended up with a knife in my hand and while struggling it lead in hurting Tanya and the rest you know." Ruhani interrupts as I tried to answer.

I tried to answer but Ruhani gestured me to stop, “Let me answer Rehan and take the blame for my misdeeds. I just slid beneath the bed and sneaked out when everyone was too involved with Tanya." Ruhani said looking at me as she continued to answer the question.

"But how did you find that out?" Abish asked me after a pause.

"Never mind... I know Ruhani cannot do that. She can't kill anyone or even attempt for it. She might be emotionally driven and a bit out of control but she is good at heart." I said as Ruhani kept looking towards me.

"What you mean to say Rehan? Wasn't all that my fault? I know and I am sorry for that. I’ll just apologise and leave." Ruhani asked.

"No, you were just an unplanned part of that plan, which could have been successful if you hadn't intervened." I replied. The looks on their faces changed as they looked towards me to continue.

"I wasn't comfortable at all when Ruhani didn't wished to get cops involved in the matter." I said as I opened the file which had the printouts of the  investigation report.

"But it was an accident Rehan, She didn't really mean it I know." Everyone turned their heads as Tanya arrives along with her Dad.

"Yes, it was an accident but it isn't as simple as it appears dear." I reply Tanya as she sits beside me on the couch.

"What do you mean to say Rehan?" Tanya's Dad asks.

"I wondered how can a simple cut on the wrist can be so deadly? Even when it wasn't serious one. I researched about suicides over internet and found it usually takes more than 15-20 minutes for even the deepest cuts to get the victim unconscious which clearly was opposite in your case Tanya." I said.

"Yes, I don't know but all remember is that I felt dizzy and suddenly all I could see was darkness." Tanya said.

"I somehow felt there’s something fishy. That's why when uncle avoided the cops I thought of involving a private detective who could be a helping hand in finding out the mystery." I said.

"Ohh, You should have informed me about that Rehan." Uncle said.

"No, it was utmost necessary to maintain the secrecy as I couldn't trust anyone at that moment. After I came to know that Ruhani was also involved somehow I was broken." Everyone turned their heads at me.

"Yes Ruhani, I knew it way before you confessed yourself that to me. I didn't knew what had happened but all I knew is that you were somehow involved in it." I said.

"WHAT?! Ruhani, How could you even think of it? I'll call the cops right now and get you a lesson. I never cared about my reputation at all. I just thought that it was a suicide attempt and that's when I agreed to keep cops away from the matter. I thought it might stress Tanya out. But you..." Uncle said as the discussion heated.

"Uncle, there's no need for that.” I tried to calm him down. “ The thing that happened with Ruhani was just a matter of coincidence." I rest my palm on his shoulder to calm down the situation.

"So who's behind it?" he asked me. His eyes were red with anger. He had his mobile in hand, as he wanted to call cops right now.

"You remember doctor had said that there was an overdose of drugs found in her blood stream? Which were mixed with her food?" I asked him as the expressions over his face changed.

"Yes I do, But that's not possible as she doesn't consume any of those pills." He replied.

"But the reports clearly stated that it wasn't the loss of blood that made her situation critical. It was due to overdose of those drugs.

That kind of medicines aren't easily available in every medical store. They are some very specific medicines that are needed for some special patients. Also they aren't available without any prescriptions." The expressions on the faces changed as I continued. “ It was difficult to find out who else was involved."

"So you mean that someone amongst us had poisoned my daughter? But why would anyone will do that? Everyone knows she had bad past with these two." Uncle said in a stern voice looking towards Abish and Ruhani.

"Aren't they the ones who were involved?" He continued.

"Sadly yes, but they aren't the ones who drugged her." I sighed breaking the silence.

How can a friend like Ruhani could do this? I somehow knew all that happened with her was a sheer coincidence and she was just a puppet there. If she wouldn't have been there and If Abish wouldn't have hinted that day I doubt Tanya would be alive here standing in front of us.

Abish might be her not so good past but he wasn't a bad human being. He had changed a lot since he had met us and was one of the friends that we could trust on. He might have tried to save Ruhani as he only knew a side of the incident. Since he had a soft corner for Ruhani. But they can't kill anyone who was so close to them.

Chapter Thirty-Six : Mystery Unfolds 1

Chapter Thirty-Six : Mystery Unfolds 1

Rehan
*present*

I was sitting on the armchair in the terrace garden with my laptop checking on my inbox after every few minutes as I awaited the final investigation report. I was supposed to be emailed to me by now. It was getting difficult for me to keep waiting as the time passed.

I had made sure that all the members in the house will be here within few hours. It is better if I let the truth out before everyone at the same time. I kept on refreshing my inbox for a few more minutes but I hadn't received any new email notification yet.

Out of patience, I unlocked my phone and dialled detective's number. He didn't receive the call and send me a message which said, “Just emailing it within few minutes. Making a final check before sending you."

I turned off my phone screen and placed the phone back on the teapoy beside. A few moments later there was a ping sound. I checked again to see if it was the same email that I had been expecting. It was the email that I had been expecting for a while. I downloaded the PDF file and as I clicked on it to open, the file asked me for password.  The report was encrypted with the password which I and detective had agreed upon when I had assigned him the task. He had informed me that the reports he’ll be sending will be encrypted with the password so that no one can get their hands on it even if anything happens.

I smiled at the level of anonymity and security that he had maintained to keep the information within safe hands. But the smile soon turned into a frown as I started reading the report. I also had a brief look over the evidences that he had attached within the report. As I continued to scroll down through the file I discovered things that I couldn't even imagine in my wildest dreams.

I held my head in my hands as I had tears in my eyes. If I hadn't involved a detective here I would have never known the truth. I shuddered at the thought that those smiles were hiding the darkest evils behind them. I had Goosebumps thinking that what would have happened if Ruhani wouldn't have been there that night.

I brushed little tear droplets from my eyes as I continued to read ahead. Tanya would be coming anytime by now. She had called as they were leaving from the hospital. I just wanted this to let out and open in front of everybody. I wanted to uncover the jackals that were hiding inside pack of wolves.

~*~*~*~

Everyone was present in the garden now. They all were looking at me curiously as I kept waiting for Tanya to arrive. "Ruhani do you remember the secret advisor? The one who used to call us and drop the hints that it wasn't a suicide at all?" I questioned Ruhani as she looked up.

"Yes" She answered with just a word and shook her head.

"You know who that guardian angel was?" I asked back again to which she just nodded her head in ‘No’.

"Let me just call him here." I opened my phone dialler and dialled the number. A phone had started to ring nearby as I had dialled the number. Everyone's eyes halted at Abish as he pulled out his phone from the pocket. "Can I know who is calling?" I asked Abish to which he didn't reply but rather just showed me his phone screen.

"So you are the guardian angel who wished to remain anonymous?...” There was sheer silence. Abish stood there looking down at floor. “ You could have just informed us. It could have been a lot easier than you calling me with some new number and sticking notes on our bathroom mirrors right?" The sarcasm was clearly reflected from my tone.

"Oh don't be so silent buddy, you did such a great job. You proved that even someone's not so good past can prove to be a good future." I continued as his eyes were still glued to ground.

"Rehan, I didn't meant any harm. I just wanted to help and that's all. I had met Ruhani that night. When I asked her why she was sneaking in instead of just heading straight through the door. That time She said that she wanted to surprise Tanya.

I wasn't aware about her actions that night. I had called Tanya to inform her that I had to leave for Malaysia for a conference. All I wanted to say sorry for not being able to attend her wedding. But on call, I just overheard their voices. I guess which was received by mistake. I said nothing but just kept ear on the arguments that were happening.  Just when the argument stopped there was a loud shriek. I ran inside and asked one of the relatives to and check upon Tanya.

But I guess it was too late before anyone could find out what had happened there." He sighed as he held his head in hands.

"Then why being this mysterious caller thing?" I asked as I still had some doubts left. Even though I knew what had happened actually.

"I had messaged Ruhani that night after the incident. Asking her if she was staying with Tanya or she had any other residence nearby.

She replied me that she had a hotel room booked nearby and would be staying there as she wanted it to be a surprise for everyone else as well.

I just wanted to confirm that I had heard someone else. I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t Ruhani. But when I came to know about Tanya's condition, I thought you should know the truth. I know you wouldn't have believed me if I would have just simply said to you that Ruhani was present in the room that night.

So I had to make Ruhani confess out herself. For that I just hired one of the servants from the mansion and asked him to just post those messages in your bathroom mirrors.

I called Ruhani and informed her that there was a hidden camera in the room that night. I blackmailed her by saying that I had the footage about that incident. For letting her to believe me I played the recording of the call that was automatically recorded on my phone that night. I messaged Ruhani that I had kept the CD in Tanya's Diary  if she still doubts me and wants to see it. Along with that I also lead you towards the Diary for that." He sighed as there was complete silence around. Everyone was shocked as he continued further letting out the truth.

Chapter Thirty-Five : Realisation

Chapter Thirty-Five : Realisation

Ruhani
*present*

I followed Rehan as he brushed me off and rushed downstairs. But I held myself back near the upper end of the staircase as I saw Uncle greeting him. I didn't wished for uncle to know else he would just hand me over to police without even once listening to what I had to say. My relations with Tanya's Dad weren't really good. He always used to blame me and my family because after her Mother's death Tanya had refused to stay with her Dad.

I just overheard them talking about Tanya's wellbeing and her chances of getting her conscious by this evening. Thank god! I mentally chided and thanked god. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something had happened to her. I headed back to my room as I started packing my bags. I wanted to leave the house before she arrives. I don't think anybody wanted me here anymore especially after what I did that night.

As I had packed my bags I opened my laptop and tried booking flight tickets the earliest I could get for London. Sadly all the flights were already booked and there wasn't any until tomorrow night. I booked the ones that were available earliest . I shut my laptop screen and rest my head on the wall closing my eyes.

Sometimes we do the things which we regret later on. Only if I had controlled my emotions this wouldn't have happened at all. Now even Rehan hates me, it's easier to live by seeing your loved one with someone else than seeing hatred for yourself in their eyes. Now I had no one to go back to. Everyone just wants someone like Tanya. I really had now started to doubt my existence.

My phone screen lit up as I saw Abish's message pop-up. I opened the message to see what had he sent.

Abish : Hey, Is everything okay there?
Me : Yes it is, but might not be soon.
Abish : Why?... I haven't told anybody yet that I had seen you that night.
Me : Thanks for that Abish but there's no need for it now. I just confessed to Rehan today.
Abish : Oh, well then I can assumed what might be his reaction.
Me : hmm...
Abish : You have any idea why he has called me today evening?
Me : Did he?
Abish : Yes he did just an hour ago. Has he informed you about anything?
Me : No, I don't know.
Abish : So what are you going to do now?
Me : Just waiting for Rehan to come back home then I'll leave India forever.
Abish : What?!
Me : Yes, I don't have anything left back here now.
Abish : Well you can stay here with me. Ain't I a friend as well?
Me : Yes you are but sorry. The more I stay here more the memories of that night will haunt me and I don't want more guilt than I am feeling now.

Abish : Okay, but can you please stay sometime with me before you leave?
Me : Okay, I don't know when we’ll meet again.
Abish : What's are your flight timings? If I may ask?
Me : Tickets aren't confirmed yet. But I'll leave tomorrow.
Abish : Okay, so will you be there at house this evening?
Me : Yes, I'll leave after I apologise to Tanya for what I have done.
Abish : Okay, don't worry whatever happens, happens for the best.

I ended the chat and put my phone aside. Why would Rehan wish to see Abish especially at this moment? What is he up to?

The questions kept buzzing in my mind as someone knocked at door. I placed my laptop aside is I went and opened the door. I saw Rehan standing outside the door. I gestured him to come inside which he refused by nodding and said in a stern voice ,"Be present in the terrace garden this evening. It's something very important we need to talk about."

"Rehan, I am..." Rehan walked towards his room before I could complete my sentence. It was getting harder for me to bear his ignorance and hatred. All I could do was sit back and wait till evening. I had never seen this side of Rehan ever. I slammed to door and jumped on the bed as I dug my face into pillows and cried my heart out.

I kept thinking about my life. I thought over everything I had done whether right or wrong. I realised rather than loving Rehan it had been an obsession for me. I had grown obsessed over him. I just thought it as love as I wanted to see as it was, I didn't wanted to listen to anyone. I thought everybody was unjust against me.

Then I thought about Abish, he had been good to me right since we had met. He wasn't that bad as I used to think of him before meeting him. I remembered the letter and bracelet that he had given me. I got up and opened my bag to search for that bracelet. I had kept it safely after sending him the selfie that day in flight. I always kept it near me as it used to make me feel better every time I missed Rehan, Tanya back in India.

I had never replied to his letter as it was just out of my mind, me being way too obsessed with Rehan. I searched for that letter in my bag. I read it again and a smile had spread across my face. I felt guilty for not being fair with him. I thought of writing him a reply before going back. I decided to give him before leaving as he had given me before I was on my first flight to London.

Why it always happen that we ignore the ones who love us and love the ones who ignore us? I wore the bracelet and kept the letter in the same box he had presented me with the bracelet.

Chapter Thirty-Four : Get well soon

Chapter Thirty-Four : Get well soon

Tanya
*Present*

Suddenly I started feeling a headache and warmth increasing inside me. I felt as if someone was rubbing my palms. I pulled that hand into grip and it felt warm. The headache increased as I tried to open my eyes. Eyelids appeared to be heavy as I slowly opened my eyes. For the first few moments my vision blurred but later I could see clearly as Rehan jumping with joy. I smiled as he kissed my forehead.

I could see the happiness on his  face. He pushed the nurse calling button asking her to call the doctor When doctor arrived, she asked Rehan to move out. He stood there like a stubborn child until he was emphasised on moving out. I smiled as I saw his grumpy face when tried to peep in through the glass window while the nurse pulled over the curtains.

Doctor did a thorough check up right from checking my senses. She asked me if I could feel the pain. She checked my eyes, ears and mouth as I pulled my tongue out. She noted the observations and asked me to walk and jog around a little as she removed the apparatus from my hand which was used to monitor me while I was unconscious. She carefully kept on noting down her observations on the paper hooked on her writing pad which she had been holding on from quite a while.

After a few minutes she asked me to eat and drink something and they exited the room. I could see the happiness on Rehan's face as he rushed into the room as soon as doctor had left. He pulled me into a hug me and pulled a chair to sit as he held my hand.

I was looking above thinking about us, "What were you thinking?" he asked caressing my cheek.

"I was just thinking about us Rehan. “I replied. The events of that night played in my mind as it drained the smile off from my face. My vision blurred due to  tears.

"Hey! Hey! Shsshh!! Don't cry and stop thinking about it now." he said as he cupped my face wiping off the tear droplet as rushed down my cheek.

"I think you should sleep now. We'll talk about it later tomorrow early morning." he said as he patted my head rhythmically as I tried to sleep.

I couldn't help but I was wide awake the whole night. I was unable to sleep maybe as I had already slept a lot. I just glanced towards Rehan as I saw he was still holding my hand and had dozed off to sleep laying his head on the bed. I tossed and turned a little as to have a better look.

Watching someone sleep especially someone whom you adore is really fun. I gently played with his hair as he was off to dreamland in his sleep.

Next morning was a bit weird to start as Rehan had forgotten to inform Dad that about my condition and he had received more than 100 messages and missed calls.

"How I didn't notice any of these arriving?" He said as he quickly glanced at his mobile screen.

"Maybe you had left your phone on silent?" I suggested.

"Oh yes that could be. Ahh Hello! I am so sorry. I had just left my phone on silent and didn't notice any of your calls." He replied to me as he moved towards the window talking on phone.

"Yeah, She is wide awake since last night." He continued to update dad about my status as I rolled my eyes.

"No, they have not spoken anything regarding it. I'll have a check and let you know soon."

"Yes, She had her fruits for her breakfast as recommended by the doctor." He talked on phone while staring at me.

"You want me to hand her the phone?" I nodded in ‘NO’ as he grinned.

"Why?"

"Oh, yeah I get it. No worries. I am here, see ya." He kept talking over the phone as out of boredom I had started to play with oranges throwing them in air and catching them back as they fall in my lap.

Rehan crossed his arms and started to watch me with a smile as I continued to do what I was doing.

"What? I am BORED."  I said quoting the word 'BORED' with my fingers. He chuckled and handed me my phone. I smiled as I placed the orange back in fruit basket and unlocked my phone.

"I need to check with the doctor if you didn't had any serious head injuries as well." He chuckled as I slapped him on shoulder.

"No need, thanks a lot for this." I smiled as I showed him my phone.

"Hello miss Tanya how are you feeling now?" Dr. Pratiksha smiled as she placed her observation pad on the table alongside.

"Much better doctor, thanks!" I replied as she continued her regular check-up procedure.

"Mr Rehan, I have good news for you. You can take her home by this evening." She said noting down the observations on her pad.

"Thanks Doctor! You are awesome." Rehan said as Doctor chuckled and waved exiting room.

"I have some work due which needs to be done as soon as possible. Uncle will be here in a few minutes. I gotta go, will see ya directly at home sweet home as I need to prepare for your welcome back." He winked and shoved his phone into pocket as he left.

For the next few minutes I just scrolled through my phone thinking about Ruhani. Where was she? I started preparing a mental to-do checklist as I continued to think about that night.

The wedding must have been called off and everyone must be sad. I need to talk to Ruhani and sort this out. Somehow I had started to feel the guilt of betrayal. But I made up a smile as Dad arrived and pulled me into a hug.

Chapter Thirty-Three : Awaited Arising

Rehan
*present*

I was sitting beside Tanya holding her hand in mine eagerly waiting for her to eyes to open. It was late night and yet Tanya was sleeping. I called on to doctors to find out the reason as they said she will be gaining her conscious back by the evening. Doctors had stopped her drugs and had kept her on observation from last 48 hours. Even doctors weren't able to find out why she wasn't opening her eyes yet.

They  asked me to keep the patience as each body works in its own way and no one can accurately predict anything about it. As asked I pulled myself a chair and sat beside her holding her hand waiting to see her opening her eyes.

It was mid-night and the chaos inside the hospital was disappeared as if it never had ever existed. Everything was calm and cool, sleep had started to gain control over my mind and I had started feeling dizzy. I lay my head near still holding her hand as I hoped to see her eyes open.

There was a sudden vision where Tanya and I were married and were on honeymoon in her favourite destination. The one that she wanted to visit so badly. We were playing with snowballs on mountain peaks of Switzerland. As we were tired with the snow fight she held my hand and started guiding me towards the end of cliff. I kept warning her to be careful about it but she was just in a different mood. She carelessly jumped and kept pulling me to show me the view from the cliff. Suddenly the snowy layer under her feet cracked and she fell from the cliff.

"TanyaAA!" I shake my head and realised that it was just a nightmare. I poured some water into the jug as my throat was sore. I kept the glass back as I saw some movement in her fingers. I rubbed my eyes to check if I wasn't dreaming once again.

Nothing happened this time. I pulled the chair closer to her bed and held her hand in mine. I felt her pinky finger twitch again. This time I was sure this wasn't a dream. I started rubbing both her palms as the movement increased. Suddenly she gripped my finger in her weak fist. A huge grin spread across my face.

I continued to rub her palms and foot soles.  Her head moved a little and she slowly opened her eyes. I jumped and screamed a little in joy making the chair fall on the floor behind me making a loud noise.

I kissed her forehead as she kept looking at me. "You should have asked me for a visit to hospital. It would have been a lot easier than lying on this bed." I said as she had now opened her eyes fully and was staring straight into mine.

"Shut up Rehan." I smiled and caressed her cheek as she spoke in a very low and unclear voice.

"Just wait for a few seconds, I'll just call the doctor on duty and be back." I said getting up and kissing her forehead. I headed out to look for any doctors or nurses on duty. I signalled a nurse to come here from the nurse station by pressing the nurse call button provided  inside the room.

"What happened? Do you need anything? " The young nurse said peeking in through the door.

"Yes, Tanya, I mean the patient has gained conscious could you please call the doctor?" I requested as she nodded quickly and closed door behind as she went on to call the doctor.

A few minutes later a female doctor arrived with a few more nurses which carried some stuff with them. “Please move out for some time. We need to check the patient." The nurse asked me to leave them alone. But I didn't wanted to leave her alone. "SIR please?" She emphasised over the 'Sir' and I had to leave the room.

I peeped in through the circular glass window on the door. The nurse noticed me and stared at me giving an annoyed look as she pulled the curtains covering the glass window. I really hated that nurse for the moment as she was keeping me away from Tanya. I tried to sit for a while but couldn't as my mind had started to overthink once again. I was circling outside the door looking towards the floor and sweating nervously.

A few minutes later doctor opened the door and gestured me that now I can go inside. The nurses placed a new water jug that was filled with water and placed some fruits alongside.

"If she feels hungry, feed her these and nothing else. This lukewarm water is only for the patient. You can drink from another jug." I nodded as nursed instructed me.

I sighed relief as the nurse closed the door and left us alone. I glanced at Tanya she was staring at the roof. I held her hand and kissed it as she looked at me and smiled.

"What were you thinking?" I asked her as I caressed her cheek.

"I was just thinking about us Rehan." She replied. Her voice was much louder and clear than before. Slowly her smiled drained off her face and she had tears in her eyes.

"Hey! Hey! Shsshh!! Don't cry and stop thinking about it now." I cupped her face as a tear droplet rushed down her cheek.

I wiped the tear off her face and caressed her face. "I think you should sleep now. We'll talk about it tomorrow." I said as I pulled chair near to sit and held her hand in mine.

I caressed  her forehead as she dozed off to sleep.

Chapter Thirty-Two : You Know Nothing

Chapter Thirty-Two : You Know Nothing

Rehan
*present*

I just couldn't believe my ears as I stood there still as a statue. It was difficult for me to believe that Ruhani could do this. How can she? Didn't she adored Tanya as well? Then Why? With all these questions exploding in my mind I just couldn't bear it anymore. Why the people whom you trust always betray you more often than the ones you don't?

I would never had believed it if someone else had said this to me. But I had to believe as she had confessed it herself. I always knew she was an emotionally driven person but this, it was something that I couldn't imagine she could do it in a gazillion years. She was the reason for Tanya's present condition.

All I could do was shake my head in disgust and disbelief, "Tell me once that all that you said was a big huge lie or a joke and I'll forgive you. Please tell me it’s some worst prank."

Instead of responding to my word she just shook her head and kept fidgeting with her fingers. "For god damn sake TELL ME Ruhani!" I screamed as I held her by shoulders and had shaken her vigorously.

"No" She muttered in low voice. I pulled my hands back and headed towards the door.

"Wait Rehan! You had promised me you won't judge me or leave me. Don't do this to me. I am really sorry." She said as she feel on her knees trying to stop me from leaving by holding my hand.

I shook her hand off me and closed the door with the force making loud noise as it hit the door frame. I entered my room and closed the door from inside. After a while there was knocking on the door. I could hear Ruhani outside as she kept crying and apologising.

I was trying to ignore her as my cell phone beeped. It was a private number again. I picked up the call to answer. "Hello Mr Rehan?" A Male voice echoed in my ears.

"Yes, I am." I answered trying to get my mind out of those wild thoughts.

"Sir, it’s me your private detective."

"Yes, speak. Any updates?" I sat, taking my head in hand.

"Yes sir, I have almost solved your case. I just need to confirm about the evidences that I have come across. I 'll email you the final case report by tomorrow."

"Okay, thanks, that sounds great. I will send you the remaining payment after receiving the final case file." I answered brushing tears of my eyes.

"Thank you sir, It was a pleasure working for you." Answering he dropped the call.

I switched off my phone and kept it in a drawer beside the bed. The thoughts about everything that had happened over that one night were all over my mind. All I needed was some time alone to think. I decided to take a nap as it was the only thing that could help me to keep all these thoughts away from my mind.

I wasn't quite comfortable when Ruhani had offered to keep the cops away from this incident. Uncle didn't mind about it as Tanya was recovering and he didn't wanted it to be a big issue before the press and media. Who wouldn't want to know the latest gossip which had two business tycoons involved? After thinking a lot, I decided to go for Private Detective Services.

It wasn't quite difficult to find the real culprit after involving a professional detective in the matter. He used to send me reports regularly about the evidences he used to get. I had even mailed him the number from which I had been getting calls about that night. He took a few days to get it traced and when he sent me the report for it. I was shocked to see that the person who used to call was none other than Abish.

That meant even he was somehow involved in this. But how did Ruhani didn't say even a word about Abish being there that night? Was Ruhani really hiding something from me again or She was telling lies by building up the story to save Abish?

Even after trying to sleep to calm down my mind. I was unable to stop thinking about what Ruhani had confessed. I took my phone and switched it on to see if there were any messages. There were 100 messages from Ruhani. There wasn't any to have a look at those as I knew already what they could be.

I stood up and headed towards the door. I was surprised to see to find Ruhani sitting by the door as the sobbing still prevailed. She looked up towards me and tried to apologise which was overtaken by her sobs.

As I tried to leave ignoring her, she hugged me from behind. I tried to get her hands off me but she pulled her grip tight over my torso. I forcefully pulled myself out of her arms and rushed downstairs.

"Rehan!" Tanya's Dad called me as I was climbing down the stairs.

"I have really good news for you. Doctors said she might get her conscious back anytime soon. Isn't that great news?" He had smile on his face as he was happy that his daughter will be fine soon.

"Uncle can I stay tonight with Tanya? You can have some rest today." I said trying to hide all the hatred I had been getting for everyone whom I used to trust.

"Yes, then keep me informed about her status overnight." he said as I headed towards the exit.

The next thing I did consciously was filling up the medical formalities that were due to be completed. I dialled Abish's number as I sat outside Tanya's hospital room. He picked up after a few rings.

"Hey, how did you remembered me at this time of the day?" he said.

"You need show your presence at the Arora Mansion Tomorrow in the evening. So kindly free up your schedule a little bit for it. There's no option of skipping it so please be there." I said and cut the line.
