Review: From Another Land: Making Home in the Land of Dreams

From Another Land: Making Home in the Land of Dreams by Tanushree Ghosh
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Blurb from Goodreads :
Given The chance, would you be ready to immigrate.A majority would probably answer ‘Yes’. Yet, immigrants are looked at with either contempt or segregation and rarely compassion, in their motherland and abroad. Post The 2016 US elections, The rhetoric is further reverberating. From cancellation of refugee protection, zero tolerance and undercurrent crackdown on H visas to racism, profiling and discrimination—the resurgence of nationalism is hitting The globalised population head-on.But what is immigration today. A question of life or death. A fleeing of persecution. A compulsion. Or a mere pursuance of privilege. And, what is USA today, especially for Indians. From An-Other Land is a reality check and an emotional guide for anyone who wants to understand modern-day immigration to USA.

The book had caught my eye recently as when you are just at the end of your college days and see your friends talking about so called MS in US and what not, the thoughts just flooding your brain filling it up to the brim about the so called better life in US. It's not a thing where you just claim that it is not good at all or something but the whole craze about finding about a perfect life has let to destruction of several lives always.

This book would be more of a myth debunking read rather than being a entertaining read. It's for the people who actually want to plan to get out of their countries and find a better world somewhere else. Since here its about the latest USA immigration status and stories surrounding them, its not a golden side there either.

The book has overall a gloomy and serious feel rather than any sort of entertainment as you might expect from a fiction. In the beginning there is a sudden influx of characters which might be a bit hard to keep up with but later on it gets much more clear as you read ahead. You don't really have to remember all of them as most have their separate episode.

It's a good one time read which you can prefer while savouring your favourite beverage. You can surely recommend this to someone who is looking forward to emigrate from the country. Might be of some help.
