Review: The Last Chai

The Last Chai by Varun T.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb from Goodreads:

The year is 2019. The world, as we know today, is not the same anymore.

Blatant threats of war by ‘world leaders’ is the new normal. Gone are the days when mobilizing armies at borders, or aiming missiles at adversaries, was a rare phenomenon.

With every nation or their allies possessing nuclear weapons, victory through conventional means is no longer possible, paving way for covert warfare to emerge as the preferred weapon.

New Delhi is an easy target and Doshi, the unassailable supremo of the regime, is on the ‘hit list’. The threat assessment being at an all time high, Ajay Kaamte, the director of SPG (Special Protection Group), is tasked with protecting the PM.

Intelligence claims that the PM is susceptible to cyanide attacks and situation is grim, to say the least.

Will Doshiji survive to serve another term or will he very soon be having his last chai?

Well I don't know where should I begin this with. Its been awfully long where any book had me impressed to this level. I can say its one of the best reads I've had ever. Honestly beginning with the blurb was a bit off and cover is totally boring but don't stop there. Prologue had me gripped and well I stopped usual posting on instagram about the book and just went on binge reading in silence.

The story had me gripped right from the beginning till the end. Like there was so much happening around. I can't just write a review without giving spoilers but I'll try my best. There's a ton of things happening in the story, there's just no one point to look at. Also, I love the few Indian looking references once in a while that had landed in between. I would say for you to enjoy this book you must be well aware of world politics and Indian politics to some extent. Even if you don't you'd love the story thorough-out but if you did, you just love it like I did.

Kudos to the author, he has surely done his research really well, no doubt it was one of the top five books in Amazon's pen to publish contest. I'd say at the price the read you're getting is amazing. Its a very rare occasion where I just push the book this harder. The mystery, drama and thrilling reading time is awesome experience with this book. I was a bit skeptical about getting this for a read but I just headed for it and It was totally unexpected and awesome. I'd totally recommend this read.
